Tony Preston makes a repeat to the Trophy Room (see the Prior Seasons Trophy Room) with this very nice 12 point harvested during the December 16th hunt on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. Mr. Preston's narrative follows: "This deer was taken near Boothton on December 16, 2005. My hunting buddy and I had put some doe scent on the FROZEN ground and stepped in it. Around 9:30 as I was about to move my stand, a spike walked out of the woods on a trail about 35 yards out. I decided to let him go, hoping for something bigger. Guess the old saying is right as about 5 minutes later I heard a tree being shredded. After a few tense minutes, this 12 point ( 5x5 with 2 kickers) walked out on the same trail with his head down sniffing and angling toward me. When he cleared some bushes I fired and he fell about 12 yards from my stand. (Where's the bow when you need it) He weighed 160 pounds and was aged by Mr. Wiley at 3 1/2." Congratulations on a fine trophy, Tony, and thanks for sharing your hunt with us! (Click on the picture for a larger image)
Charles Glenn, Jr., of Alabaster, sent in this picture of a nice buck that his son, Matthew Glenn, harvested during the January 7, 2006 hunt held on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. The deer was in full rut and had just completed servicing a doe (2 times!) as Charles and Matthew looked on. After allowing the buck the courtesy of passing along his genetic line, Matthew took this fine trophy with a Remington 270. The 8 point buck weighed 168lbs and way 4 1/2 years old. As a follow-up to turning his buddy onto his first deer harvest (see the trophy immediately below this one), Mike Luther took this fine buck during the December 31, 2005 hunt on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. You can find Mike throughout the various Trophy Rooms on this site. Mike pulled the trigger on this 7 point at 7:30AM. The deer was trailing a doe in fog. It weighed roughly 145 lbs and was 3 1/2 years old. Thanks Mike...and congrats once again. (Click on the picture for a larger image)
Mike Luther invited a friend up from Mobile to hunt with him during the Dec. 17, 2005 gun hunt on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. Sure enough, his buddy took a deer at 10:30 that morning. It was the first deer that his friend had ever harvested! The deer weighed roughly 120 lbs and had lost one side of his headgear. (Click on the picture for a larger image)
James Oliff harvested this very fine yearling buck during the December 10, 2005 Primitive Weapons Hunt on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. That's no typo boys (and gals), this is the first set of horns this yung 'un had ever grown!!! The 1 1/2 year old buck weighed 94lbs field dressed and had 8 points with a 9th point broken off. The inside spread of the rack was 10 1/2 inches. The deer was taken at about 8:30 AM with a .50 Cal Muzzle Loader from roughly 90 yards. This is a fine example of what YOUR Management area can produce, and I have a sneaking suspicion that his Papa is still out there. (Click on the picture for a larger image)
Jason Bachman sent in this photograph of a fine 4 point that his father-in-law, LaDon Miller, harvested during the November 25, 2005 hunt at the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. Strapping his harvest to a bike, proved much easier ! ! ! (Click on the picture for a larger image)
