Below you will find photographs of deer that were harvested on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area during the 2009-2010 hunting season. If you have a picture of a deer taken on this public hunting area, please forward it to me at gevans@vis-info.com so that others might enjoy your trophy. It would be good if you could include the date of you harvest as well as any other information that you would like to share (time of day, weight, measurements, ect...). Charles Sowell was kind enough to send in these pictures of this nice 140lbs 3 year old buck that he harvested during the January 2, 2010 hunt on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. Congratulations Charles. "Just wanted to share some pics of the deer I was privileged to harvest on this past Saturdays (1/2/2010) hunt. This one is special because he is my first off CRWMA in 7 seasons of hunting. I took him at 7am at 15 yards while stalk hunting in some thick brush. He was quartering into a northerly wind and appeared to be following a rub line. I hear a lot about uphill dragging of harvested deer but was fortunate that this drag was mostly down hill to a small creek where I field dressed him. My hunting buddy then helped drag him the rest of the way to my truck only a short distance away. He weighed in at 110lbs field dressed ( 140lbs live weight estimated)at the check-in station and was aged at 3 years (a late drop according to the biologist)." -- Charles Sowell

Robert Carlee sent in this interesting photograph. As with most of these type things, there is an interesting story to go along with the picture. Robert was kind enough to provide the following: "This deer was shot on the January 2nd gun hunt. This was the second time had I seen this deer this season. The first time I thought he was a half rack and let him walk. This time I saw that he was somewhat unusual so I took the shot. I looked the evening of January 2nd and after church the evening of January 3rd and had no luck; I found no blood at all. What I did find was a waterfall that I'd never seen before and just below the waterfall was a tree with a very old carving that read "Let Jesus In". Today after church (January 10th) I decided to take my family out to see the waterfall and show them the old carving in the tree. While walking to the falls my dad stumbled upon the deer I shot a week earlier. I guess you could say it was meant to be but, I believe Jesus is in the middle of everything we do and we need to simply "Let Jesus In" and forget the rest. Just like the old carving on the tree reads." -- Robert Carlee

Daniel Johnson sent in this picture of a fine 7 point that he harvested on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area at 7am on Christmas Morning. The buck had "teased" him the previous Monday morning. Patience an perseverance pays off! Congratulations Daniel!!!
