The “slabs” are actually concrete bridges/structures...SLABS!!! across the river that are no longer used. They were originally built to accommodate large dump trucks that were utilized during the mining of the property. Presently, they offer pedestrian access to the other side of the river and also are decent fishing locations. Prior to the Wildlife Management Area being formed, theses two locations were regularly frequented by the locals and used as a gathering spot.
DIRECTIONS: From Helena at the intersection of Hwy 52 and Hwy 17, turn South on Hwy 17. Turn Right on Co. Rd. 22 towards Dogwood. When 22 intersects Co. Rd. 10, turn Right on 10. This will take you down past the Checking Station. OLD SLAB: Turn Right onto Co. Rd. 251. The Old Slab is at the end of this road. The road has been recently maintained and any vehicle can now make it back to the slab. NEW SLAB: Go past the road that leads to the Old Slab (Co. Rd. 251)...the Road that goes to the new slab is not on the Map, but it is the next road on the Right. |
