I remember driving to Okmulgee WMA in Bibb County just to sight in a rifle! The shooting range in the Cahaba River WMA is set up to accommodate 5 to 6 shooters at a time. Wire fencing is in place at 25, 50 and 100 yards for the shooter to hang targets. Shooters must possess either a WMA permit or an Alabama Hunting License in order to legally use the range. Also, only PAPER TARGETS may be used! DIRECTIONS
Take some clothes pins or duct tape to assist you in hanging your targets. Shoot safely, and remember to wear eye and ear protection.
Be a Responsible Shooter This is YOUR range! Please obey all rules and regulations concerning the use of each of the target ranges. If you see someone violating these rules, contact the District 3 Law Enforcement Office of the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries in Northport, AL at 205-339-5716. These folks can quickly get in contact with the conservation officer that is nearest the WMA. A FEW GUN SAFETY REMINDERS:
A FEW SHOOTING RANGE ETIQUETTE REMINDERS:
DIRECTIONS: Follow Co. Rd. 52 West through Helena. At the intersection of Co. Rd. 52 and Co. Rd. 17, continue across 17. The road turns into Co. Rd. 91. Continue down Co. Rd. 91 to the entrance of the Cahaba River WMA (you'll see the sign). The road to the Shooting Range is less than a mile from the entrance to the Management Area. The road is on the right and has a sign that says Target Range. You will have to be looking for it our you will miss it. Once you turn right at the sign, you will go down a hill. About half way down the hill on your left, you will see the new shotgun range. FOR SAFETY REASONS, DO NOT DISCHARGE RIFLES AT THIS LOCATION ! ! ! SHOTGUNS ONLY. At the bottom of the hill, the road curves to the LEFT. The rifle/pistol range is about 1/2 of a mile from this turn.
