Efforts have been made to improve the quality of fishing available at the Cahaba River WMA. The Cahaba River offers a great opportunity for the fishing enthusiast. The river can be fished from the bank with success and many people use the area around the Old Slab and the New Slab. For the best success, and fun for that matter, use a canoe. In addition to the Cahaba River, there are numerous bodies of water dotting the WMA. Many of these bodies of water are the result of the mining operations that were prominent in the 1970s through the early 1990s. I am not sure how the fish got into them, but I have had a lot of luck fishin' 'em. Your best bet for locating a fishing hole on the management area is to cruise the roads and keep an eye out. Many fishable bodies of water can be found this way. Getting off the main road and hiking a trail into the woods works well also. You will probably not have to search very far!
The picture on the left is of one of my favorite fishing holes in the WMA. I have caught many, many fish in this location, the biggest being a large mouth bass weighing over 4 pounds. I am certain that there are larger ones. The Cahaba River WMA is dotted with a whole bunch of fishing locations just like this one, you just have to get out and find them. If you want to know where this one is, you'll have to find it yourself :) Valuable tips on fishing within the Cahaba River Wildlife Management area can be found under the Fishing section of this site's Discussion Board.
Don't forget the fishing opportunities that the river itself has to offer ! ! ! |
