| Daniel Boone was once asked if he had ever become lost during his excursions out into the new frontier. He replied, "I ain't never been lost, but I've been a might bit confused for several days."
One of the most frequent request that I get, is to provide better directions to some of the locations highlighted on this site, and often simply how to get to the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. The links to the left will take you to a digitized copy of the Cahaba River WMA permit/map and also a digitized topo map of the WMA. Be forewarned that the pages load slow due to the large size of the digital images. Let me start off by saying that the WMA Permit, that is required to hunt on the WMA, is the single most important piece of information that is available in learning the general layout of the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area. The Permit is actually a MAP of the Cahaba River WMA! You do not have to be a hunter to get one of these. They are available free of charge! The Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area Permit (read MAP) can be obtained from: McKinney Wrecker Service, Rt. 2, Box 2, West Blockton, AL 35184; Greenpond Grocery, PO Box 134, Greenpond, AL 35074; Holcomb Building Supply, 3690 Hwy. 25, Montevallo, AL 35115; Hosses, Co. Rd. 54, Pea Ridge, AL, Conoco, Co. Rd. 17, Helena; Bart's Country Store, Hwy. 10, Pea Ridge, AL. You can also get this map at a booth at the checking station, and they are usually available at the Wal-Mart in Pelham. You can obtain Topo Maps from Carto-Craft Maps, Inc. near Shades Mountain in Birmingham. They can be reached at 205/822-2103. |
