Deer Hunting Statistics
Trophy Room Hunt Reports Deer Hunting Statistics

From 1999 to 2003, I would visit the Check Station on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area at the close of each season and jot down the harvest statistics that were/are kept on a chalk board under the shed at the station.  The table below shows the information that I collected on these trips up until the close of the 2002-2003 hunting season.  In 2004, the Alabama Department of Conservation Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries began making detailed harvest information available on their web site.  Since then, I have only recorded the number of total kills as indicated on these reports.

The reports can be found in their entirety below.  They contain very detailed information about the results of each hunt on every Wildlife Management Area in the State of Alabama.  They are a statistician's dream come true!  I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions; however, here are a couple of my personal observations:

bullet

Since the close of the 2001-2002 Season, the number of deer harvested annually on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area has increased by 226% when compared to 2005-2006 harvest data.  Surprisingly, the number of hunters has remained relatively constant through the same time period.

In the period from the 1999-2000 hunting season through the 2003-2004 hunting season, you could expect (on average) to harvest a deer on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Are after investing 38 days of hunting.  The man days per harvest for the 2005-2006 hunting season was 18.

Last year it took 18 man days of hunting to harvest a deer on the Cahaba River Wildlife Management Area.  About half of the Wildlife Management Areas in Alabama took less man days.
