The Bowl
Falling Rock Falls The Slabs Marvel The Bowl

UPDATE July 20, 2002  --  The Bowl has been SHUT DOWN ! ! !

A close friend of mine called me today from the entrance of the bowl.  He had his truck and trailer loaded for an afternoon of four-wheeler fun, however he was greeted at the entrance of the Bowl by two Shelby County Sheriff Deputies.  He was politely informed that an accident had occurred a couple of weeks ago that required a young girl be airlifted to a Birmingham hospital.

In light of the accident, the owner of the Bowl has decided that he can no longer turn a blind eye to the activities that go on there.  The owner has informed the sheriff that he will no longer tolerate Trespassing, and he has requested that the sheriff department begin enforcing his rights as a private land owner.

My friend says that after a couple of weeks of handing out warnings, the deputies will begin writing tickets and confiscating vehicles.

In light of today's sue happy society (in particular in Alabama), I guess it was just a matter of time.  My family and I will miss the bowl.

The information below is no longer valid...the Bowl has been closed.

On any given weekend of the year, you are likely to find 75 to 100 people riding all forms of off-road vehicles at "The Bowl".  On some weekends, there are several hundred.  You will often find people there during the week, but not nearly as many.  "The Bowl" offers riding in the upper section (see pictures below) as well as numerous trails that shoot off from the bowl section.  Take care not to stray too far away from the main bowl section as you may find yourself on WMA property.  If discovered on WMA property with a non titled vehicle, you WILL be ticketed.

I would suggest that young and/or inexperienced riders not attempt to ride at "The Bowl" on a weekend.  There are just too many people.  Even experienced riders need to "keep their head on a swivel" and be looking out for other riders.  I encourage you to always wear a helmet and eye protection.
